A Small business Website can be likened to building are a house.

They both need a firm foundation with preparation and planning.

And some of the major elements of that is to be very careful about the business name and the URL or domain name you choose. If you put up a small business website like www.JoesThings.com, it tells Google and/or your readers very little, if nothing at all about your business.

However if your website is something like www.plumbingcoloradospringsco.com, it is pretty clear, that if someone types that in their browser or clicks on that link, people know exactly what it’s all about and so does Google. You are going to be directed to a Plumbing company in or around Colorado Springs, Colorado.

And if you come to a site that has nothing to do with plumbing, then you are going to make a mental note that the link you clicked has nothing to do with plumbing, plumbers, not in Colorado, etc.
And you will never click on that site again, if you are looking for a plumber.

Google does the exact same thing. All of the content must be related to be recognized.

So for example if you have a website, like www.naturalgaswaterheaters.org, the categories might be about water heaters tankless water heaters, water heater repair, and so on. All things related to water heaters, and the actual domain name itself.

Google knows exactly what your website is all about.

Another thing is your keywords, and maybe the most important. Think, okay what would people search for? Because if you have a great website and no one ever sees it, it’s not a great website. You need to have a website, that is littered with phrases and terms that people are searching for.

Again, in the example www.plumbingcoloradospringsco.com , if they’re looking for that and their house is flooding, then they’re looking for you in a hurry and they’re looking to buy.

The other thing that you need to look at is that everyone is looking for the latest magic bullet to get you into the top 10 on the first page of Google overnight. The secret to Google is very very simple, just give Google what it wants. If you try and fool Google, it may work for little while but in the long run it just doesn’t work. So good interesting and relevant content, that is informative and helpful as well, will get you high in your rankings in Google.
